About Komodo

Christchurch-based Komodo is a wellbeing and safeguarding platform helping schools to better understand, monitor and support the wellbeing of their students and staff. Founded by Dr Chris Bacon and Jack Wood, Komodo combines behavioural science and psychology, embedded within a user-friendly digital platform to give schools the insights they need to provide proactive and data-informed pastoral care.

Initially developed as a wellbeing tool for professional athletes, Komodo has evolved into a globally adopted education platform, now used by schools across multiple countries. Its intuitive design and evidence-based framework allow educators to detect early signs of wellbeing concerns, streamline safeguarding processes, and build a stronger culture of care within their communities.

Why We Invested

Our Aspire NZ Seed Fund backs visionary founders who apply technology to solve meaningful and scalable problems. Komodo is addressing a critical need in the education sector: ensuring schools can effectively meet growing wellbeing and safeguarding expectations while supporting the mental health of students and teachers alike.

We were impressed by the founding team’s deep domain expertise and their ability to translate evidence-based research into practical, user-friendly technology. The strength of Komodo’s advisory and investor network (including leaders from Kami, Culture Amp, and Education Perfect) reinforces confidence in their ability to build a globally relevant EdTech business from New Zealand.

Looking Ahead

This investment supports Komodo’s next phase of growth as it strengthens its presence in international schools and expands into new markets. The company is also continuing to enhance its platform with exciting new features, empowering educators with the insights they need to foster safer, more supportive learning environments.
